Our Commitment to Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion is more than “slow-fashion”. While slow fashion highlights the movement against mass production, sustainable fashion also takes into consideration the impact on not only the environment but also the human factor of fashion. Now more than ever, consumers have the ability to change the world by demanding ethically and sustainably produced goods and services. At Zufrique we have heard the call for these policies and as such we strive for environmental suitability through ensuring:

  • All factories producing our bags guarantee that their carbon footprint and environmental impact are of the minimum;
  • All materials are sourced from the local markets within South Africa - thus ensuring growth and support for the local economy;
  • A zero waste policy is maintained by using all leftover scrap fabrics in some way;
  • All hides and skins are sourced from reputable tanners to ensure the long term conservation and sustainability of the species (exotic hides such as ostrich and springbok) and
  • No heavy chemicals are used in the tanning process.

Furthermore, we are committed to ethical and respectable labour policies such as:

  • No forced labour
  • Freedom of associational and the right to collective bargaining
  • Safe and hygienic working conditions
  • No child labour
  • Liveable wages
  • No discriminations – equal employment opportunities
  • No excessive working hours
  • No harsh or inhumane treatment

By supporting the above policies and principles, Zufrique, and in turn our customers, are saying “We support the quality of our environment and our communities’s lives over the lowers prices of sweat-shop fashion”.
